He said no, that she was just mistaken in the mind. Then he got asked about Mayella’s testimony and if she was lying. Tom Robinson answered that he probably could but he would never. Mr.Gilmer pressed forward saying that he could though. He was also asked if he was strong enough to choke a woman, and he replied that he would never do that. Tom Robinson would reply with that it looked like she would need help and he felt sorry for her. He asked questions like why he was doing chores for Mayella. Then Mr.Ewell saw and said he would kill Mayella. The door was then closed and he was trapped. Then he was called in the house to check a door, but all the doors were fine. He went several times after that to help her without payment. Then one day he was aked to come chop up a chiffarobe. He said he had to pass her house to get to the field he worked at everyday. Tom Robinson was then asked if he was acquainted with Mayella Ewell. He said it was because he and another person got in a fight and had to pay a fine, but he couldn’t pay it, so he had to serve for a little bit. Tom Robinson was asked about the previous time he had been arrested. The chapter starts with Tom Robinson giving the oath that he will tell nothing but the truth.
